Job Description 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Buyer to join Britten-Norman Aircraft Limited, a Britten-Norman group company, producer of one of the most successful civil aircrafts ever manufactured in the UK and now the UK’s only independent civil aircraft manufacturer. Whilst we have been successfully producing aircraft continuously for over 50 years, we are also a leading aerospace SME and offer a wide range of aviation related services to an international client base.


As a Senior Buyer you will support the Supply Chain Manager by expediting and buying products and services for Britten-Norman Aircraft Limited.  You will also be part of a team whose focus is to ensure that all materials, parts, spares and other associated components are procured for the business in a timely and effective manner so that the new build aircraft production, spares provision, overhaul and aircraft modifications departments can operate efficiently.   

This role is based at our Southampton premises with frequent travel to suppliers and other Britten-Norman sites.


Primary Tasks

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager, the main tasks will include but are not limited to:

•      Identifying suppliers, raising Supplier Requests for Quotations (RFQ’s) and negotiating to meet the needs of the business.

•      Raising Purchase Orders in accordance with company policies and procedures and expediting all orders for the Procurement and Production Departments.

•      Undertaking Project and Sales Order Procurement.

•      Working with engineers to reduce costs, improve design, mitigate risks, and reduce lead times.

•      Identifying and monitoring Obsolescence issues.

•     Liaising with various teams to help create Project Plans.


Key Skills and Attributes: 

•   Strong negotiating skills

•   Good understanding of the aviation industry and basic engineering processes

•   Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills with the ability to retain composure and flexibility under pressure

•   Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook

•   Ability to multi-task and to determine and manage priorities to meet multiple deadlines

•   Effective in a team and as an individual. Precise, accurate and meticulousness. Reliable, pro-active and self-confident.


Minimum Qualification Requirements: 

·      Five GCSE’s at Grade C or above to include English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications

·      Degree in business, economics, relevant subject or similar level of education is desirable

·      CIPS qualification or working towards one is desirable 

Required Experience



•      Experience in a purchasing role

•      Processing components through a stores environment

•      Experience in supplier negotiations

•     Experience in producing statistical analysis and reports



•     Experience in an ISO9001 accredited company

•     Experience of working in an Engineering Project based environment

•     Experience in the Aviation or Defence sector

•     Experience working with UK Government Agencies



•     Flexible time
