BN2T-4S - Defender 4000 Surveillance Aircraft

A continuous programme of research and development since the design of the first Islander has resulted in many variants in both civil and military roles. Defender 4000 is the latest development of the BN2T Defender aircraft - in service with government and law enforcement agencies world-wide - meeting the need to operate a lightweight aircraft from short airstrips in all weather conditions, by day and night.

Design improvements include an extended fuselage, larger wing for greater internal fuel capacity and enhanced visibility cockpit and cabin. The Defender 4000 is designed to carry the most sophisticated navigation and sensor equipment such as thermal imaging camera and 360 degree search radar (optional extras).

The standard aircraft incorporates advanced avionics, an electronic flight instrument system (EFIS) and a full range of communications equipment. Twin Rolls Royce (Allison) Turbine engines, which are flat rated at 400HP, are also fitted as standard.

A new nose structure has been developed specifically to accommodate a high performance 360o rotating antenna. The nose section can also be modified to accommodate a 3 axis FLIR ball and 120 degree sector scan surface search and weather radar. For information on other radars including a full 360 degree surface search / MPA radar, please contact the BN Sales department.

The Defender has been tried and tested to meet your operational requirements:

Proven features

The Defender 4000 inherits three main features which dominate in the success of all the Britten-Norman turbine aircraft:

  • Exceptional airframe fatigue life - with aircraft still successfully operating after 25 years
  • Anti-corrosion airframe - all BN aircraft are designed to operate at low level and are therefore built with the utmost resistance to corrosion
Economy
  • Less then one maintenance man-hour for every revenue hour flown with low Direct Operating Costs
